Description

Elwe Singollo (Elu Thingol), King of Doriath. Husband to Melian the Maia (same race as Gandalf, for you souls who aren't legendarium-literate) and father to Luthien Tinuviel. (Again for those curious viewers - he's distantly related to Arwen.)

I took what *Sirielle said yesterday as a challenge. "...those guys not only should be beautiful, preferably with long beautiful hair but also wearing circlets and other jewelry and some strange clothes." I figure Elwe liked shiny things more than Ingwe and Finwe did, so he got drawn. Also, side note - dwarves frequented Menegroth, probably because of the amount of business they got. Take of that what you will.

Now I've drawn all of the Big Three! (The B3 being Finwe, Elwe, and Ingwe - here's the picture that influenced my idea of them the most: [link] (by Soraco) .) Finwe doesn't really count though since I drew him dead and only as a bust and the other two got fullbody pics.
You'll have noticed that Ingwe got put in white and light blue (associated with the sky, heavens, and purity) and Elwe got light blue, dark blue, and silver (for dreams and ethereality). At this rate, Finwe'll get blued up too....
Elwe's portrayed as a bit harsh and greedy in the book, but clearly he's a softy considering he left his people for 200 years to be romantic with his wife (that was really irresponsible of him, btw). Also, silver hair. Couldn't really dress him in red, now could I?

The gems, their colors, and therefore the entire color scheme of this picture, are influenced by moonstones. They're what I had in mind while picking out his initial colors.

Yes, his braids are literally dripping with gems. Blame *Sirielle.

Haha :D I like it! The jewelry and stary background with the swirls of architecture behind him. Great mood, together with colours and their symbolics  I always imagine him with straight hair, too, so the gems with hair really fit there. I would remove the belt in the middle, leaving the lower one, but then he could put even more jewelry on ;) When I finally come back to drawing I'll try to accept the challenge, too. Got to see how much trinkets one of those noblemen can bear :giggle: ;)
